RDI CELEBRATES ITS 20th BIRTHDAY WITH TITAN PRO RAIL PROMOTION

RDI RECEIVES EVALUATION REPORT FROM ICC-ES

RDI is proud to announce that it has received the ICC-ES evaluation report for its Endurance Original rail. The ESR report, ESR-1849, recognizes Endurance Original rail as being code compliant to the 2006 International Building Code. The report became official on January 1, 2009 and can be viewed as a PDF on the ICC-ES website here. The report, ESR-1849 is categorized under Division 06 (Wood and Plastics) Sections 06500 (Structural Plastics) and 06610 (Plastic Railings and Guards). This report replaces RDI's original ICC-ES Legacy Report, NER-701.

RDI RECEIVES TITAN PRO RAIL™ TRADEMARK

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded, to RDI, a registered trademark for Titan Pro Rail. Titan Pro Rail is listed as class 006-Vinyl-Clad Aluminum Railings, Guard Rails, Handrails and Banisters. The trademark, U.S. Registration No. 3,517,638, became officially registered on October 14, 2008.

2009 INTERNATIONAL BUILDERS SHOW: HOPE FOR 2009?

By now surely everyone’s heard attendance for the 2009 IBS was down significantly from last year, with only 61,202 in attendance. As heavily as our industry has been affected by the severe economic downturn, the IBS decrease in attendees should not come as a surprise. What was surprising to RDI was that the attendee decrease did not seem to impact the volume of visitors to our booth and we also noticed an increase in quality of the attendees who visited the booth as well. Whether it was the attraction of our cost-competitive Titan Pro railing line, the beauty of our re-engineered Novaline system or the fact that people who spent the time at the show were researching options for expanding their product offerings is uncertain. The good news is that exhibiting at the IBS yielded good results, and we experienced much positive feedback from visitors and had very good prospects. If the IBS was any indication of what to expect in 2009, it’s a positive, encouraging sign.

NEW PRODUCT RELEASES:

RDI TOUGHENS UP NOVALINE® AND OFFERS NEW OPTIONS

Since we started offering Endurance in-fill baluster options, we’ve received very positive feedback along with several requests to offer the same options with Novaline. After much testing on the part of our New Product Development Team, we determined that with a bit of reengineering, it was possible to modify Novaline to meet the higher structural demands of multiple in-fill options. We replaced Novaline’s wood-fiber structural components with aluminum beams to make Novaline even stronger. Still with the same beautiful profiles but now stronger than ever, RDI proudly offers additional baluster options in square, glass, or ¾” round iron profiles. The balusters are boxed and sold separately.

An added enhancement to the system eliminates the common complaint of seeing unfinished wood on the underside of the bottom rail. The underside is now white powder coated aluminum and matches Novaline’s Pearl finish.

NOVALINE CONTINUES TO EVOLVE…

So now that Novaline is available with a Pearl or paintable top cover, multiple baluster options, and a multitude of accents and accessories, what’s left? Believe it or not, we’ve actually found something else! Let’s imagine that you absolutely love your new wood or composite decking and don’t want to have to paint your Novaline to match. On top of that, you hate to waste your left over deck boards by throwing them away. Now you don’t have to do either! Simply attach your deck board to your Novaline railing. Nothing to paint; no deck boards to waste. For higher-end jobs where a particular type of wood species is desired, RDI can also provide a custom wood top, available as a special order.

Don’t forget about your remodelers! The Endurance post wrap, one of our fastest growing products, is perfect for installation over new or existing wood posts and makes remodeling jobs faster and easier than ever before. Installation requires no fasteners or adhesives and is as simple as cutting the post wrap to length and snapping the 4 pieces together. These PVC post wraps are adjustable to allow for imperfections and slight variations in post dimensions while eliminating the need for planing or packing out the post. The post wraps are offered in 2 styles: flat and fluted, and both are available in White, Earth or Sand and in 96” and 120” lengths for use with a new or existing 4”x 4” or 6”x 6” post. Both styles of post wraps can be purchased in single quantities (1 post wrap consisting of 4 pieces).

To add that finishing touch, RDI offers matching 4-piece adjustable trim rings, also in White, Earth and Sand. These trims can be adjusted to fit posts from 3 ½” x 3 ½” to 6 ½” x 6 ½” without nails, screws or glue.

ENDURANCE: MORE THAN JUST A NAME- PART I

After hurricane Gustav was born, just southeast of Haiti in August 2008, it was headed for a tremendous path of destruction. From Haiti, to Cuba, to the United States, destruction was immense. Among the wreckage were tens of thousands of fallen businesses, homes and other buildings, so it is not surprising to see that when it was all over, several structures resembled flattened versions of their previous selves. In particular, the once lovely gazebo the Hebert family of Louisiana once loved as a popular gathering place became a pancake of a structure.

Fortunately, no one was hurt when the gazebo collapsed, and some of the material is able to be re-used. Among such material were several sections of RDI’s Endurance railing. With a few minor replacement parts, most of the Endurance railing will be reused.

Mr. Patrick Hebert, president of Hebert Construction and Rental Co. of Morgan City, LA, a faithful Endurance user, says he uses Endurance for its dependability and strength. Mr. Hebert knew he could rely on Endurance after seeing first hand how it held up on the lovely wrap-around porch on his home. When asked about his experiences with Endurance railing Mr. Hebert said, “With 6 boys doing what they do to things and it held up, it’s gotta be good!” Mr. Hebert agreed that he’d be happy to recommend Endurance to others. When asked for his thoughts on the product, he had this to say, “It’s extremely durable. It’s just amazing…quite remarkable…really first class.”

DEALER SPOTLIGHT: RW SPECIALTIES

RW Specialties, with locations in Henderson, Bar-Nunn, Wyoming, Grand Junction, CO, and West Jordan, UT have announced a new promotion that has already proven to be a hit with builders. The program, headed by RDI Product Champion Jon Krizman, offers builders an opportunity for free product and installation training when the builder agrees to use Titan Pro Rail as their standard railing product. Installation will be provided on up to 16 lf per model, limit of 2 model homes per builder, at which time Jon will work with the builder, training and installing the product. The objective is to demonstrate to the builder how easy it is to do a proper Titan installation. According to Keith Simpson, Sales Manager for RW, one customer, WestMark homes in Fort Collins, CO has already committed to using Titan on a project of 100 homes. The program is planned to continue through 2009.

We love to show off our classy, Novaline railing systems. Check out the pictures below of a beautiful Novaline commercial job by G.W. Mitchell & Sons, Inc. in San Antonio, TX using our Novaline Pearl railing. The jobsite is located at The Harbor Condominiums in Port Aransas, TX.

We spoke with Lonnie, Project Manager for G.W. Mitchell and Sons, about his impressions on how the project turned out. A first time Novaline user, he was impressed by the strength and beauty of the system, especially the ambiance created at night, with the white, almost “glow” of the railing in conjunction with the RDI solar caps.
